Individual Therapy

Your child will receive a customized and fun therapy program developed by the speech language pathologist to address specific concerns. Therapy is driven by current research, the child’s needs, and family interest. Your child’s sessions can be in your home, preschool, SLP’s home-based office, or through video conferencing (i.e., teletherapy). See below for some examples of areas we specialize in.

Speech and/or language assessment

Based on your area of concern, the speech language pathologist will assess either a targeted area or complete a comprehensive evaluation. After the evaluation, you will receive a written assessment report outlining areas of strength and weakness. At this time, formal assessments are only offered for preschool-aged children.

Other Services

At times, you may require additional services such as a comprehensive assessment report or formal meetings with your child’s classroom team. We will always discuss additional services and fees with you before completing them.

We treat a variety of areas including:

  1. Speech sound delays and disorders
    • A speech sound delay or disorder happens when a child continues to make pronunciation errors past a certain age. Different sounds are mastered at different ages. Speech sound delays can have different characteristics including difficulties with making sounds (articulation), sound patterns (phonological), or motor movements (also known as childhood apraxia of speech).
  2. Expressive language
    • Some children may have difficulty using words. This may include difficulties such as:
      • putting words into phrases
      • labeling items
      • asking questions
      • using proper grammar
      • using longer and more complex sentences
    • we can also support children using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  3. Receptive language
    • some children may have difficulty understanding language. This may include difficulties such as:
      • understanding gestures
      • understanding spoken words
      • answering questions
      • following directions
  4. Pragmatic language deficits
    • These social skill deficits can be linked with autism spectrum disorder. This may include difficulties with:
      • attending to the same objects and ideas as another person
      • starting and taking turns in conversation
      • playing appropriately
      • understanding feelings
      • keeping a conversation going
